FAQ
The Chempark site fire brigade offers two training opportunities:
The training to become a site firefighter, where you can start immediately after leaving school. During the three-year IHK basic training, you learn everything about the fire brigade profession. The first 18 months of training take place at the Currenta training centre. Here you get to know various manual activities. After that, the actual training to become a firefighter takes place, identical to the B1 course.
By the way… we are the only vocational school in Germany for training to become a plant firefighter.
The firefighter candidate B1 course is aimed at people who have already completed training – preferably in the technical or scientific field – or who have completed training as an emergency paramedic.
The B1 candidates start immediately with the fire brigade technical training. This includes, among other things, the acquisition of a truck driver’s licence, training as a paramedic and the practical training on guard duty. Outside of operations, you work in specialist areas or workshops. The training takes place mainly in Leverkusen, and if possible the guard training takes place at the site (Leverkusen, Dormagen, Krefeld-Uerdingen) where you will be deployed in the future.
By the way, B1 candidates receive a permanent employment contract right from the start. This is subject to passing the final examination.

We are responsible for the safety of Chempark. That’s why we go out on significantly more technical missions. The involvement of e.g. chemicals is also incomparably higher. For this, we have an impressive fleet of vehicles at our disposal, including special vehicles such as the TULF.
In the area of emergency services, we have no call-outs due to abusive alcohol or drug use.
The fire brigades of the municipalities are increasingly called out to fires. Accidents also have to be dealt with more frequently. The rescue service has to deal with many incidents in which alcohol or drug abuse played a role.
24 vehicles, around 475 tonnes in weight and 8,500 hp of power – anyone who wants to experience the impressive vehicle fleet of the Chempark site fire brigade live has the opportunity to do so at the Chempark’s regular blue light events. Photos can be taken, films made and questions asked. Information on the blue light event can be found in advance on the social media (Instagram, Facebook, etc.) of Currenta and Chempark.
If you have any further questions about training with the site fire brigade, you are welcome to use the contact form. We will get back to you as soon as possible.
